"We held our breath and looked skyward as we assembled for the start of the WBW Cup competition. It was, after all, the last competitive match of the season and surely the sun would look down kindly on us. We had the luck we deserved and a dry and sunny afternoon provided the backdrop to an enjoyable occasion for the thirty-two members who had signed up to play.
This was the maximum number we could accommodate and big thanks must go to Norman for helping set up the eight rinks we needed and for providing us with a well behaved green to play on.
Prior to the start Ann O’Halloran was able to explain how the competition came about. Her father had been a long-time member of the club and had held a variety of posts during his time here. He introduced the competition and donated the trophy everyone had come to win!
After the closely fought initial rounds we got to the semi-final...
Les Bentley & Wendy England v Derek Smith & Ann O'Halloran.
and
George Wise & Val West v Stuart England & Margaret Speedie.

The outcome of one semi-final is established...

Followed swiftly by the second.

The final beckoned.
Les Bentley & Wendy England v George Wise & Val West.
Our hosts, David and Margaret, get the match underway.

Is there a better backdrop...?

Right on the jack.

Les Bentley and his partner Wendy England triumphed with victory over George Wise and Val West.

The winners and runners up were presented with their prizes by Ann to end a really enjoyable afternoon with not a hint of rain!"

...and, of course, the winners were honoured with the WBW Cup.

Congratulations to all concerned.
Margaret and David Bailey.
Our thanks go to Margaret and David for organising and hosting this event.
