get a "Hot Shot" award, but more about that later.
The semi-final of the YBA Ann Wilkinson competition had been rescheduled from the 4th August to Monday 11th August due to bad weather. It is good, therefore, to record that it was a lovely warm, sunny afternoon when our Harrogate ladies met the ladies of Thirsk Blue to play the postponed match at home.
The match was to be played over 18 ends, on two rinks, 2-woods and four players per team with one reserve. Our two skips were Margaret Bailey and Judith Chappel. All was set and the green was in great condition.

All players played very well. Judith’s team was involved in a closely fought match for the first half and then gradually pulled away. Margaret’s team established an early lead and developed it further.

After 16 ends Thirsk Blue conceded the match. Margarets rink won 22-9 and Judith’s rink won 19-13. A strong victory.

The winning teams.

The final is to be played at 2.00 p.m. on Monday 1st September at York Railway Bowls and Social Club.
But the afternoon had further success to record. In our previous round of the competition against Borough Park on Tuesday 22nd July Margaret Bailey's team scored a maximum of 8 points on the second end of their match. This enabled them to receive a Hot Shot* certificate and Hot Shot badge. We were actually given the silver award for our achievement and now the four players become full-fledged members of the Bowls International Hot Shot Club.

Very well played everyone.
*The Bowls International Hot Shots Club is famous throughout the bowls playing world. It was launched more than 20 years ago to reward players achieving a maximum score on one end of a competitive pairs, triples or fours match, and remains as popular as ever. … The much valued certificates recognising the feat and signed by 15 times world champion Tony Allcock take pride of place in the clubs and homes of bowlers all over the globe.
