The words for this article were kindly provided by Lynn Devall, Sponsorship Co-ordinator, Simon Hamer, Club Chairman and Gary Preston, Gentlemen's Captain.

“Thank you to everyone who took part in The Glenda Emmett Trophy competition on Saturday 23rd May, it was a wonderful day with great weather, a delicious cream tea and some fantastic bowling.

We are especially pleased to be reinstating this trophy, honouring a much-loved member whose enthusiasm, competitive spirit, and warmth left a lasting mark on our club.

Glenda achieved great success on the green - from Club competitions to representing Yorkshire — but she was equally known for her kindness, humour, and the joy she brought to those around her.

We were delighted to welcome members of Glenda’s family – her sister, Lesley Dearlove and her husband David and also delighted to welcome our sponsor Andy Armitage from The Yorkshire Hearing Clinic who generously provided Prosecco for us all to enjoy with our tea.

Our Chairman, introduces the afternoon, alongside the Gents' Captain.

He shared a message from Glenda's family that they think captures her perfectly:

“Play as best you can but above all, enjoy yourselves and the companionship the game provides.”

We had a great day of bowling. The teams played 5 games of 4 ends, culminating in a final.

The score cards are handed out...

and play begins on a beautiful Yorkshire afternoon.

Praise for a well delivered wood.

As skips keep a tally of the score.

And passers-by wonder what's going on.

It looks like an unexpected result for one bowler?

And a great result for another.

If in doubt, double check...

Smooth operator.

A couple of members' of the public enjoy our sport.

The first session is finished...

and it's time for that cream tea and Prosecco!

Refuelled, bowling recommences. Who will be in the final?

I think we're holding four.

The qualifying sessions draw to a close.

A relaxing way to spend an afternoon.

The score cards are in and the finalists are announced.

THE FINAL

The finalists -

with Glenda's sister - Lesley Dearlove and our sponsor - Andy Armitage

The first jack is sent.

And the first score is about to go up on the board.

Concentration, determination.

Appreciation.

The two skips bowl the final end of the afternoon.

Followed by the final handshake.

And a well deserved celebration.

What a brilliant afternoon.

And on this occasion our winners were

Team F - Stuart, Simon & Monica.

Andy Armitage’s young daughter, Charlotte proudly volunteered to draw the tickets for our raffle, which was greatly appreciated.

It was a great day, concluded by all those members who volunteered to increase the bar takings...

"Thank you" to everyone who participated and supported the bar and raffle, and a special thanks to the catering team who supplied the delicious cream tea, particularly Helen Hamer who baked 72 scones just for the occasion."
