"The J&L Bradley Trophy competition, first presented in 2014, took place on Thursday 28th August 2025, having been re-arranged from its original date due to the weather. Although storm clouds threatened again the competition was completed with only a couple of light showers during the afternoon.
The “Bradley” is a sponsored three-woods self-selected mixed triples competition played in a round-robin format, leading to a final over 6 ends. On the day, we had a full complement of twelve teams taking part which meant each team played five games of four ends.
The teams were placed in two groups – the so called Red "Group of Death” and the Blue Group – with six teams in each group and the winner of each group going forward to the final later in the day.
The Round-Robin
The teams quickly get into the swing of things.

Demonstrating his shadow puppet skills. "It's a lizard!"
(Apologies, it was irresistible).

Another close call.

Reading the line.

High-fives as a round is concluded.

And woods are gathered up as another rink finishes a round.

The first shower begins.

Unorthodox but effective rain protection.

The showers have passed and the finalists are declared.

The winners of each group were - in the Red Group Derek Smith, Pauline Barton and Paul Jacklin, demonstrating a lovely mix of experience and rising talent, and in the Blue Group Norman Jackson, Frank Devaney and Linda Jackson, showing their pedigree of big game experience and skill.
"It should be a great final."

The Final

Lining up the first jack.

"Bring it in this way."

The umpire is called onto the rink for a long measure.

Norman, Frank and Linda went on to win an entertaining final, which was watched by all the competitors prior to the presentation of the trophy and tea.

The Club President thanks the runners up for an excellent match.

Congratulations to the winners of the J & L Bradley Trophy 2025.

Thank you to all those who helped Jan and me on the day, including Margaret & David Bailey, who couldn’t be there but had done all the preliminary work, Lynn Devall for sorting out the winners' prizes, George Wise for organising the tea and cakes and Ann & Richard for opening the bar.
Finally a big thank you to J & L Bradley Heating Engineers for their continued support and sponsorship of our Club."
