This report was kindly provided by Gary Preston, Gents’ Captain.

“Despite the poor weather we had a very successful public open day on Saturday 9th May.

During the morning we had a dozen or so members of the public try out our sport of bowls. Helped by a very large and enthusiastic group of members who were happy to give up their time to help the club to recruit new members.

There were lots of bowls and...

...shoe sizes available.

Our first guests of the day begin to settle in.

A coach explains bias.

Then watches some excellent deliveries.

A crown green bowler is interested in becoming a flat green bowler.

Whilst more coaching takes place on another rink.

With more excellent results.

Lunchtime saw a rain squall which was followed by a drop in temperature for the afternoon, which may have affected any newcomers because we only saw a couple of potential new members.

Rain pauses play.

Some passers-by appear interested. Perhaps we'll see them again.

And there was always the opportunity to retire to the clubhouse for a

cup of tea and a welcoming smile from "The Clubhouse Ladies".

We must have made a good impression as a club because the following Tuesday saw half a dozen of our visitors attend their first coaching session and all seemed very pleased they had given it a go on the Open Day.

Many thanks to all of the members who helped out on the day, it was much appreciated. It meant that there was a lovely atmosphere on the green to greet any newcomers.”
