CLUB NEWS

Congratulations, everyone. We raised another £773 for people suffering from motor neurone disease.

Our President, Judith Chappel kindly provided this commentary about another special President's Day.

The afternoon started with the traditional “spider”, which was won by David Lamb just beating David Bailey (a serial winner of this event) to the bottle of vodka. The bottle had been kindly donated by a member.

The "spider" launches...

Guess who won the vodka!

Then came the bowling “whistlestop” . The rules were explained and off they went five matches of four ends terminated each time by the whistle being blown. No slow bowlers as everyone was determined to finish before the whistle was blown to get a good score.

The timing was perfect as it started to rain as we tidied the rinks away. Then to the strawberries and cream with Pimms, much needed sustenance for all.

Results came next with the winning team for the afternoons bowling being

John Russell, Gillian Thompson , Paul Jackson and Ian Watling each receiving a bottle of wine .

There were nine teams who were ‘seconds ‘ each had many stories of “ if only …”

The house was drawn and the first person drawn to pick a key was Richard O’Halloran. Quote “l wish l had been last”!!!

His wish was granted as he managed to pull out the correct key first time receiving £20.

The house also contained £50 for the 100 squares and l opened it and read the two numbers at the end of the £10 note.

The winner was heard to say that he had lived in five houses and had put all the house numbers down - 22 being the winner. Well done John Drake such pre-planning is welcome from our new Competition Secretary.

Next came the silent auction starting with bottles of spirits donated by club members which had been put together as one lot, The top bidder was naturally our bar staff, Richard and Ann.

The £40 Betty’s voucher donated by A Plan, the top bid was by Sheila Moffatt

The £50 M&S voucher donated by McCarthy Stone, the top bid was by Paul Morton. The dinner at the Manor House Restaurant with wine, top bidder Jeff and Caroline.

Our "Unofficial Photographer" (Jeff) finally appears in a photograph!

I thank everyone who helped in any way to support my charity the MNDA.

I would also like to thank Jeff for taking photos and providing evidence of the day’s activities. This may be withdrawn when l see them!

AND, AS ALWAYS, OUR SINCERE THANKS GO TO JUDITH AND DEREK

FOR EVERYTHING THEY DO AND CONTINUE TO DO FOR OUR CLUB.
