A top day for the "Top Club" competition.

This report was kindly provided by Mick Metson.

The sun shone and it was a beautiful afternoon. The green looked good and spirits were high for the visit of Dunnington BC. This was our first match in the new Yorkshire Bowling Association (YBA) Mixed Top Club competition.

Our team was selected from those involved in the club finals of 2022. 11 people were required to play 5 different format games which make up the Top Club match.

4 wood singles (21 shots) - Sue Mulholland

2 wood singles (21 ends) - Frank Devaney

4 wood mixed pairs (18 ends) - Andrew Morton & Judith Chappel

3 wood mixed triples (18 ends) - Monica Metson, Janet & Gary Preston

2 wood mixed fours (18 ends) - Jean Lamb, Paul Morton, Margaret Bailey & Mick Metson

All games began at 2.00pm and there was good bowling on all rinks throughout the afternoon.

Alas when play finished Harrogate,, losing on four of the five rinks, were defeated by Dunnington. But congratulations must go to Frank Devaney who played in the 2 wood singles and had a convincing 19-to-10-point win in his game. Well done Frank!!

After the match tales of the games were swapped and we bid our visitors farewell after tea and light refreshments wishing them luck in the next round.

Everyone who played enjoyed the format and look forward to the clubs participation in this new competition again next year.

Our thank go to Derek Chappel for acting as umpire for the day and to our two markers for the singles matches - Ian Watling and Richard O'Halloran and, of course, to Ann O'Halloran for opening the bar.

Well done everyone and thanks for your support.
